Its famous for its Lake Taupo, Huka Falls and various activities like sky diving, lake boat cruise etc. Famous Mount Ruapehu is not too far away from this city. If you all are looking for things to do in New Zealand North Island, you surely should include this place. The Huka Falls are a set of waterfalls on the Waikato River that drains Lake Taupo in New Zealand. A few hundred metres upstream from the Huka Falls, the Waikato River narrows from approximately 100 metres across into a canyon only 15 metres across. The canyon is carved into lake floor sediments laid down before Taupo's Oruanui eruption 26,500 years ago My friend Navi and I started from Auckland in the evening and it took us roughly 4 hours to reach Taupo. The road trip was awesome as roads were empty as it was night time, and we drove through thick Fog at few places. We had booked a one night stay at Grandeur Thermal Spa Resort in Taupo.
